Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started with LunchDates?

Just call us at 617-254-3000 or complete the confidential and free membership survey. We'll provide you with an evaluation of the type of people you will meet and exact prices. If you like what you hear, you may schedule an in-person interview at one of our five convenient locations. That is the time when you make the decision if you want to join LunchDates.

Why are LunchDates prices so much lower than the franchise dating companies?

A vast majority of LunchDates members are referrals from satisfied members, their friends, and colleagues. Since we have set up over a quarter of a million lunch dates in Greater Boston since 1982, these meetings have yielded thousands of successful relationships. We don't have to spend vast amounts of overhead on expensive telemarketers and commissioned sales people. Moreover, LunchDates does not have to pay franchise fees.

Haven't I seen or heard of LunchDates in the media?

LunchDates success since 1982 has been recognized and lauded by local and national television, radio shows, newspapers and magazines such as: The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, Evening Magazine, Chronicle, The David Brudnoy show, the NBC Today Show, Self Magazine, American Demographics, NPR's All Things Considered, and local and national news and consumer programs, as well as Liz Walker's Sunday Morning Magazine show.

What types of people join LunchDates?

Our members are busy and active, down-to-earth single, divorced, and widowed men and women who are seeking long-term relationships. Members include physicians, CEO's, engineers, university professionals, attorneys, health professionals, people in biotech and high tech, finance, sales, small business, education, and many other fields.

What if I am too busy for lunch?

Many of our members prefer to meet for an after-work drink, coffee, or even dinner. Some members meet for brunch on the weekend. It's very low key and lots of fun, to fit your busy schedule.

Is LunchDates really efficient and confidential?

Most definitely! LunchDates makes all the arrangements for you to meet someone in a public restaurant at a time and location convenient to your schedule without revealing your last name or telephone number! It is your decision to exchange last names and numbers.

What if I don't work in downtown Boston?

LunchDates members live and work all over Eastern and Central Massachusetts, from the New Hampshire border to Cape Cod, and as far west as Sturbridge. There are 5 locations for your convenience.

When would my membership start?

You will be matched very shortly after your interview, but the "clock" will not start ticking on your membership until the day of your first date.

What if I don't like a particular date?

We guarantee the quality of every match. If you are not interested in a particular date, it's just a short friendly meeting. Talk to your counselor after each lunch date to give specific, constructive feedback. Inevitably dates improve as you give more feedback.

If you don't hire salespeople, what do LunchDates counselors do?

Our experienced counselors find you the kind of people you want to meet, and they provide detailed information about your dates and help you schedule your lunch date in a nice restaurant. They also ask for feedback about your dates and help you to "fine tune" your initial interview throughout the course of your membership as they get to know your preferences.

Can I freeze my membership?

If you start dating someone, or you're going on vacation, or if you are just swamped temporarily at work, you can place your membership "on hold."
