2017’s Top Halloween Costumes for Singles Ladies

Chocolate, candy corn and sexy kitten outfits. Meow! It must be time for Halloween! But before you go prancing off to grab your stocking and kitty cat tail, read this! In Boston, our most beloved of deviant holidays offers the opportunity to dress up, grab some friends and meet some great people. Locating the perfect party is one thing. From visiting a local haunted house in Salem to checking out a ton of great parties in the city, there’s plenty to choose from. But what to wear? Don’t wait until the last minute! Dressing up is the perfect party ice breaker. It allows you to express your playful, flirty side. Execute the perfect costume and you could be chatting it up with the heartthrob dressed like Jon Snow from Game of Thrones.

Alas, when else can you wear fishnet stockings over 40? Or a leotard paired with just a pair of heels? The selection for scandalous outfits is endless. However, if you’re looking to meet a nice guy, then the devil truly is in the details. The idea is to accentuate your personality and your curves without scaring him away. How else are you going to get that Thor look-alike to hand over his hammer to you? Here are my tips on what to wear for Halloween as a single lady this year:

1. If You’re a Strong Female: The Heroine

From the DC Comic Classics (like Wonder Woman or Harley Quinn) to the classical Goddesses such as Athena or Aphrodite, there’s a ton of strong, incredible female archetypes to embody. Your inspiration can come from comic book covers, movie posters or feature films.

TREAT, not TRICK! Pick one great accessory to showcase your character. Don’t overdo it! Sword, shield, lasso, hmmm… how the heck are you going to hold your Pino too?

2. If You’re All About Your Girls: Group Costumes

If you’re gal palling it up, a group costume is definitely attention-getting and fun! Think biker gangs (Ok, cute biker gangs!), Game of Thrones, around the world, bad bridesmaids, cheerleaders or music groups (KISS is a real favorite).

TREAT, not TRICK! You can take any group idea and give it a feminine look. The idea on Halloween night is to make it a little over the top femme. Don’t be afraid to play around with it!

3. If You’re a Dramatic Diva: On-Screen Inspiration

Female Jack Sparrow, Daenerys Targaryen, Scarlett O’Hare or a female Top Gun. There are so many options to take this. Think of your favorite romantic comedy or action movie and go from there!

TREAT, not TRICK! Costumes can get pricey, especially if you’re looking to be a replica. If you’re open to renting a costume, shop EARLY! That way you can pick up some accessories that will go perfectly with it. Add a bit of flair with makeup and some hair extensions.

4. If You’re the Sensual, Playful Type: Sexy Animals

One of the most popular looks for single females, I’m sure. Yes, you can pull off the sultry lioness look. Tail and all. Think monochromatic with a twist. Get your inspiration from land, air or sea! Dig through your closet for clothes of a similar shade and splurge on accessories. Clubwear, Amazon, even Ebay can have great ideas for inspiration.

TREAT, not TRICK! Don’t go all animal kingdom on Halloween night. Add one or two elements to make an entrance. Once you’ve figured out your creature of choice, check out social media for ideas. Pinterest, Instagram or even Snapchat are all free resources. Search hashtags and get your creative juices flowing!

What Not to Wear for Halloween?

Costume ideas come in all shapes and sizes. Dress for your body type. You don’t have to throw on a jumpsuit. If you’re adding some insane shoes, break them in a bit. That giant tail you want to attach to your behind? Get a second opinion on that one. In speaking with my female colleagues, the only “costumes” they found cringe-worthy were sexy cop, bunny, angel and other generic choices. If you’re going to be sexy, don’t be basic sexy. Be creative and original! Have a Happy Halloween! Oh, and don’t forget to contact LunchDates if you’re interested in finding more awesome dating tips for Boston singles.
